Online betting site Polymarket showed a last-minute flip in its predicted winner in the highly controversial Virginia attorney general’s race.
Democrat Jay Jones, who had been plagued by scandal, overtook his opponent, Republican incumbent Jason Miyares, midafternoon on election day. Miyares was leading Jones 59 to 41 percent as of 10 am on Tuesday morning, but as of 5 pm, the tables had flipped to Jones leading by 69 to 32 percent odds.
Jones sparked widespread condemnation after text messages were revealed in which he fantasized about shooting the former GOP speaker of the House of Delegates. Jones weathered calls to drop out of the race and appears to be riding a Democrat wave to victory.

Miyares, apparently aware of the trend in voting, posted to social media urging Virginians to vote a split ticket. “Dave’s splitting his ticket. You can too,” Miyares’s post read.
In the clip, Miyares then asks, “Who’s splitting his ticket?”
“I voted already — early voting,” answers a man named Dave. “I voted for Spanberger for governor. I voted for you for attorney general.”
“Appreciate it,” concluded Miyares.
Democrat Abigail Spanberger is expected to trounce Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in the governor’s race atop the ballot.
