AUSTIN (KXAN) — So far, nearly 100 full-time employees at Austin Public Health (APH) have been impacted by federal funding cuts.
APH said the 95 impacted positions included nurses, LVNs, environmental scientists, disease surveillance specialists, program coordinators, program supervisors, community health workers, youth program specialists and others.
The organization said it has worked with the city to find other positions for the affected staff.
“So far, 73 employees have been placed in other positions within APH or other City Departments, retired, or voluntarily resigned,” APH said. “While we have managed to help maintain employment for the majority of affected employees, there has been a decrease in the department’s overall capacity to provide services.”
APH said it also had to change its clinic schedule due to cuts impacting its Immunizations Unit.
“We are attempting to maintain as many mobile clinics as possible; however, the number of people who can be served at each clinic will be much lower,” APH said.
The organization previously told KXAN the changes in funding could translate to the loss of around $15 million.
