APD: 1 arrested, 1 at large after officer injured in crash prompted by police chase

Date:

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A suspect was arrested, and another remained at large, after an officer was injured in a crash prompted by a police chase Tuesday morning in north Austin, the Austin Police Department told KXAN in a statement.

APD officers responded to a report of a person breaking into a gate of a parking lot in the 10600 block of Jollyville Road around 5:35 a.m., police said. As officers responded, the suspect drove away from the scene, and then a short police chase was prompted, according to APD. That pursuit was terminated once the vehicle entered the wrong way on the MoPac Expressway.

While in pursuit, the suspect vehicle and an APD patrol vehicle crashed in the 11200 block of North MoPac Expressway service road northbound, according to police.

The officer was then transported to a local hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” the release said. Police said there were two suspects in the vehicle who both ran away from the scene on foot. One suspect was arrested, and the other suspect remained at large, according to police.

The crash remained under investigation by police Tuesday.
