AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Visitor Center on Monday relocated and hosted its grand opening in the historic Phillips Building at 103 E. Fifth Street.
The move marks a new chapter for Visit Austin after 10 years at its previous location, according to a press release.
Visit Austin said the Phillips Building, originally constructed in 1897, was once home to the Benson Motor Company and is listed as a city of Austin Historic Landmark.
“The relocation of the Austin Visitor Center to the historic Phillips Building represents an exciting new chapter for Austin tourism,” said Tom Noonan, President & CEO of Visit Austin. “This beautifully restored landmark will allow us to provide an enhanced experience that truly reflects Austin’s unique character and creativity.
The tourist bureau highlighted a few amenities the new location will feature:
- A new coffee shop, 5th & Brew
- Interior murals by local artists
- A meeting space for live music and community gatherings
- A curated gift shop featuring local artisans and Austin-themed souvenirs
- Luggage storage for travelers
- Advice and local recommendations from knowledgeable staff
- Bookable tours departing directly from the Visitor Center
