Franklin Barbecue in Austin named best in Texas by Southern Living

Date:

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Lifestyle magazine Southern Living named Austin’s own Franklin Barbecue as the best in the Lone Star State in a recent issue.

Franklin Barbecue was first opened in 2009 by Aaron Franklin as a small barbecue trailer on the side of Interstate 35. It relocated in 2011 to 900 E 11th Street, where it remains to this day.

“Flawless prime-grade brisket, tender pork ribs, and snappy jalapeño cheddar sausage—plus a dose of nascent social media—rocketed [Aaron Franklin] to Internet celebrity,” Southern Living said. “Barbecue fans from around the globe have been lining up for hours to experience it.”

Included in the list were several “Texas-style” barbecue locations, including Wright’s Barbecue in Arkansas, Arthur Bryant’s BBQ in Missouri, and Lewis Barbecue in South Carolina.

“Texas-style brisket continues to spread across the South, winning over fans from Charleston to Little Rock,” Southern Living said.

Franklin Barbecue is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until sold out. The business is closed Mondays.
