While clips of Republican lawmakers facing the fury of voters over have made their rounds, Democrats have also faced the anger of voters in the initial weeks of the second Trump administration.
One of them told Axios for a report released Friday that they feel “hate” from those they represent. Another said there was a threat of looming “violence” over the party not doing enough to oppose President Donald Trump.

Democratic members of Congress, back home in their districts for the last week, have been encountering a level of anger and hostility that some see as reminiscent of the 2010 Tea Party wave.

The dynamic could spill over into 2026 primaries, lawmakers tell Axios, with the infuriated grassroots attempting to throw out House and Senate Democrats they see as unprepared to take on Trump.
Lawmakers told Axios that voters and grassroots groups are tracking their behavior and are furious Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer helped pass a GOP-approved bill to avert a government shutdown.
Schumer has been accused of giving away the few cards his party had for nothing in return. Democrats such as Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) have been getting an earful about that from voters at town halls.
A person Axios described as a “senior House Democrat” told the outlet they received a recent phone call from a tearful colleague who said of furious voters, “They hate us. They hate us.”
The person added, “Another thing I got was: ‘Democrats are too nice. Nice and civility doesn’t work. Are you prepared for violence?””
Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) told Axios, “The base has been pissed off for a while… I’ve been dealing with it for a long time.”
Earlier this week, separate polls from CNN and NBC News both found the Democratic Party with its lowest approval rating on record.
