There\u2019s no doubt that some of these victims could have been aided by a good firearm \u2014 and a little <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/everyday-carry-means-everyday-awareness-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">situational awareness<\/a> \u2014 but some would definitely work better than others. There are plenty of great zombie movies, but I specifically went with <em>Dawn of the Dead<\/em> because it leans more into the horror aspect, rather than the action. Zombie defense is a numbers game, meaning you need to have as much ammo as you can carry. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/ammunition\/rimfire\/22-long-rifle\/?utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">.22 ammo<\/a> is lighter than other calibers and takes up less space in your pack. It\u2019s powerful enough to zap a zombie with a proper headshot and can be used on human attackers as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As far as a firearm platform, you\u2019d be hard-pressed to beat a suppressed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/rifles\/?fq=brand%3ARuger&amp;utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ruger<\/a> 10\/22 with a backpack full of extended magazines. With a long history of good accuracy and reliability, this is a proven semi-auto .22 rifle. Slap a red dot sight on it and you\u2019re ready to rock. I would keep a good handgun under the pillow if I found myself in <em>A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em>. My top choices: A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/handguns\/?fq=brand%3AS&amp;W=&amp;utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">S&amp;W<\/a> 327 8-shot .357 Magnum snub nose or an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/handguns\/?fq=brand%3AH&amp;K=&amp;utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HK<\/a> USP45 Compact. Both are great compact options that pack a punch. I\u2019d lean more towards the wheel gun, as you\u2019re likely to get into close quarters dualing the dream demon, and the revolver won\u2019t jam when pressed up against his body.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The key to taking out Freddy Kruger, is bringing him out of the dream and into the real world. Once that\u2019s done, you better have a good weapon on hand. A stout load of buckshot or slug will bust right through any hockey mask. It also has enough knockdown power (hey, we\u2019re in a movie, right?) to handle the behemoth Jason Voorhees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of great pump-action shotguns around, but I\u2019d stick with something tried and true such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/shotguns\/?fq=brand%3AMossberg&amp;utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mossberg<\/a> 590 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/shotguns\/?fq=brand%3ARemington&amp;utm_source=blog.cheaperthandirt&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=top-guns-i-would-use-in-horror-movies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Remington<\/a> 870. A tube magazine is ideal, as it allows you to top off your ammo along the way and tends to be more reliable.
