Bruen<\/a><\/em> (June 2022), that states would back down from their attempts to trample the Second Amendment. Instead, anti-gun lawmakers have ramped up their rhetoric and attempts to trample the Second Amendment, and outlaw sales and possession of firearms in common usage, while making ludicrous claims such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/firearms\/tactical\/ar-15-rifles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AR-15<\/a> is not suitable for self-defense.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, gun groups are fighting back, and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has been leading the charge for about 50 years \u2014 most recently in Illinois.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"277\" alt=\"Second Amendment\" class=\"wp-image-40599 jetpack-lazy-image\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?resize=300%2C139&amp;ssl=1 300w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?resize=600%2C277&amp;is-pending-load=1#038;ssl=1\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?resize=600%2C277&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Second Amendment\" class=\"wp-image-40599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/second_amendment-3.jpg?resize=300%2C139&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption>It seems the government only wants to pass laws to strip the weapons from honest gun owners. I have yet to hear of a single law being proposed that seeks to remove guns from the hands of criminals. Have you?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>From the SAF:<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Second Amendment Foundation<\/a> on Friday scored a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2023-04-28-Order-Granting-MPI2248449.1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significant victory<\/a>\u00a0in its campaign to \u201cwin firearms freedom, one lawsuit at a time,\u201d when a federal judge in Illinois granted a preliminary injunction against enforcement of that state\u2019s ban on so-called \u201cassault weapons\u201d and \u201chigh-capacity magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2 ai-viewport-2 ai-viewport-3\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<!--Mid Article Ad for Mobile and Tablet--><br \/>\n<a target=\"\u201d_blank\u201d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cheaperthandirt.com\/rebate-central.html\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/win_rebate_23_ad_mob.jpg?w=640&amp;is-pending-load=1#038;ssl=1\" srcset=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" class=\" jetpack-lazy-image\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.cheaperthandirt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/win_rebate_23_ad_mob.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/noscript><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The case is known as\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/1-Complaint-for-Declaratory-and-Injunctive-Relief.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harrel v. Raoul<\/a><\/em>. Joining SAF in this case are the Illinois State Rifle Association, Firearms Policy Coalition. Marengo Guns, the C4 Gun Store and Dane Harrel, for whom the case is known. They are represented by attorney David Sigale of Wheaton, Ill. The case is in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, Judge Stephen P. McGlynn presiding. Gottlieb, \u201cit\u2019s certainly a good start in putting an end to a law we are convinced is entirely unconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Illinois ruling comes just three days after Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill banning so-called \u201cassault weapons\u201d in his state, for which SAF promptly filed a federal lawsuit in Seattle. The veteran gun rights advocate is hopeful the Illinois ruling is a \u201cgreat omen.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-rumble-com wp-block-embed-rumble-com\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Tom Gresham for the Second Amendment Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/embed\/v2ix9lw\/#?secret=AiX3f7tDJW\" data-secret=\"AiX3f7tDJW\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p><figcaption>Tom Gresham speaking about the Second Amendment Foundation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit against Illinois\u2019 so-called assault weapons ban is one of eight Second Amendment Foundation legal challenges against unconstitutional semi-automatic gun ban laws across the country,\u201d Gottlieb added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no question that Plaintiffs are harmed by PICA,\u201d Judge McGlynn wrote in his 29-page ruling, \u201cand will continue to be harmed if this Court denies the motion for preliminary injunction. A constitutional right is at stake. Some Plaintiffs cannot purchase their firearm of choice, nor can they exercise their right to self-defense in the manner they choose. They are bound by the State\u2019s limitations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later in his decision, Judge McGlynn added, \u201cIn no way does this Court minimize the damage caused when a firearm is used for an unlawful purpose; however, this Court must be mindful of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. While PICA was purportedly enacted in response to the Highland Park shooting, it does not appear that the legislature considered an individual\u2019s right under the Second Amendment nor Supreme Court precedent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is some remarkably strong language in Judge McGlynn\u2019s ruling supporting the right to keep and bear arms,\u201d SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut observed. \u201cThe Illinois statute is harmful to all plaintiffs in this case, and we are delighted the judge handed down this ruling in such a prompt manner.
