James Carville went off on former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, saying she needs to conclude book tour and then “shut the f*ck up” because she is — in his view — too frequently invoking her race and sexual identity.
The ex-strategist for President Bill Clinton seared KJP during the latest episode of his podcast, Politics War Room, on Sunday. Carville’s co-host, Al Hunt, let out a loud “Oh my God!” the moment Carville mentioned Jean-Pierre’s name, before roasting her for her viral interview with The New Yorker’s Isaac Chotiner last week.
“She started attacking [Chotiner] that she shouldn’t answer that [question] because she’s a Black lesbian female. Lady, please do your book tour and then shut the f*ck up! Please,” Carville vented.
Carville may have been referring to the point in The New Yorker interview where Jean-Pierre said “you have to think about how I’m thinking about this as a Black woman who is part of the LGBTQ community, and living in this time where I also don’t Democrats right now, Democrats’ leadership, is protecting vulnerable people in the way it should.” That was part of a larger answer on whether she believed Democrats were looking to “undermine” ex-President Joe Biden.
Chotiner, right after Jean-Pierre told him that, said he was “not trying to be dense,” but that he was a “little unclear” about what her answer had to do with “Democratic leaders and many Democrats in the country thinking that Joe Biden was going to lose to Donald Trump.”
Hunt, right after Carville’s initial comment, jumped in to bash Jean-Pierre too — calling out her support of Kamala Harris when she felt the vice president couldn’t win the 2024 race.
“What the hell is the point of a nomination if you can’t win?” Hunt said. “She has every right to publish a book, James, but I have every right to not read it.”
Carville said he agreed, and continued mocking Jean-Pierre for her recent book tour.
“One’s opinion is not determinative by their gender, their race, their sexual identity, or anything else. But God damn, I wonder if these people have any self-awareness!” Carville said.
He then questioned whether Jean-Pierre has someone in her life willing to tell her that what she is saying “makes utterly no sense at all.”
