Several roads to be closed in Austin for July 4 events

Date:

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Austinties gear up to celebrate Independence Day around the city, several roads will be closed in observance of July 4 events throughout the Austin-area.

For those who enjoy celebrating July 4 on the water, Austinites should be made aware of the watercraft ban the Austin Police Department’s Lake Patrol Unit enforces.

Each year, the city of Austin enforces a watercraft ban on Lake Austin for the Fourth of July. The ban includes jet skis, wet bikes, motorized surfboards and similar devices, a news release from the city said. While celebrators must follow the watercraft ban on the lake, non-motorized devices, like kayaks and canoes, are permitted to use, APD said.

There are many festivities Central Texas offers for you to get in the spirit to celebrate the red, white and blue. From community DJ parties to hot dog eating contests, and ending the night with a colorful firework show, here’s were you can discover Austin-area July 4th celebrations.

Whether you are ending your celebration popping off fireworks or watching it color the night sky, first responders reminds Austinites to be responsible and safe.

If you plan to purchase and use fireworks, be sure to check where its use is legally allowed, as restrictions may vary by location.

With many events occurring across the city of Austin on July 4, be mindful of road closures and alternative routes to take.

Visit the city of Austin’s website for the full list of road closures.
