Trey Gowdy Hammers Nancy Mace Over ‘Psychotic Episode’

Date:

Fox News host and former Republican congressman, Trey Gowdy, joined anchors Sandra Smith and John Roberts to discuss Tuesday night’s election results. While on America Reports Wednesday afternoon, Gowdy pulled no punches in blasting Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who is running for governor of South Carolina, over her recent meltdown at the Charleston airport. Gowdy slammed Mace’s tirade against airport staff as a distraction from winning GOP issues.

“Think of the case he made on the economy in this speech just now, Trey, considering the outcome of these elections last night and how very central to those campaigns was the affordability crisis, particularly here in New York City,” noted Smith, referring to President Donald Trump speaking earlier in Miami on the state of the economy.

“Yes, Sandra, you know, the president has a lot of great qualities. Subtlety is not always one of them. I think what he was getting at was if you would talk more about the success we’ve had, we would not have had a bad night last night. I mean, there’s no way to put a sugarcoat on what happened last night. I mean, Glenn Youngkin, that flip. New Jersey wasn’t close. New York—I mean, those of us in South Carolina really didn’t follow that race and weren’t surprised at it,” Gowdy replied, adding:

But it does impact y’all. I think what the president is saying is, look, you all have got to talk more aggressively and persuasively about the success we have had and do not get distracted. I mean, you look at the headlines recently, Sandra, and you’ve got an apoplectic congresswoman who’s having a psychotic episode in Charleston at an airport.

You’ve got this debate over white nationalism. I think Trump is saying, “Republicans, quit talking about all of that. Start talking about the best 10 months any president has ever had in our history, and maybe we have a chance in the midterms.”

“Yeah, you know, I would think that the Mamdani thing is a bigger issue for Democrats than it is for Republicans. But there are a lot of people who are agreeing with you, Trey, to say, look, if you want to do well in the midterms, stop talking about all those peripheral issues and just narrow the focus in on what people really care about, and that’s the economy,” concluded Roberts.
