The website TrumpRx.com is currently unavailable, just minutes after President Donald Trump announced it as a portal for newly discounted weight loss drugs Wegovy and Zepbound, which are also sold under the diabetes treatment brands Ozempic and Mounjaro, respectively.
There is a layer of irony revealed by the fact that it went down after Trump made clear to his staff assembled in the Oval Office to make sure it doesn’t fail in the way that the enrollment process for ACA (also known as ObamaCare) also crashed in its earliest days due to popularity combined with poor planning — a fact that anyone watching Trump’s Oval Office statement was reminded of by Trump himself.
“To sell these drugs to all consumers at deeply discounted prices via TrumpRx.com,” the president read from a prepared statement before asking aloud, “When is TrumpRX.com opening?”
Someone off camera replied, “The site is open, and it will launch in terms of giving people prices before the end of the year.”
“Okay, got to make sure it’s successful, it’s got my name on it,” Trump replied. “I don’t want to be like the train they’re building in California, which has about 15,000 percent cost overrun. Or the Obama, the beautiful Obama building that he’s building in Chicago for the museum, which has now shuttered up and dead. They got it up, and they couldn’t finish. It’s about, would you say, five years behind schedule? And about 2000% over budget, then he tells us how to run Medicaid.”
