WH Spox Shoots Down Claim That Trump Was FBI Informant

Date:

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday shot down House Speaker Mike Johnson’s claim that President Donald Trump was an FBI informant.

Last Friday, CNN’s Manu Raju asked Johnson about the case regarding Jeffrey Epstein. Although Trump was previously friends with Epstein, he has repeatedly insisted that anything connected him to the activities of the convicted sex trafficker was a “hoax.”

Seemingly out of nowhere, Johnson told Raju that Trump was an FBI informant and used his close friendship with Epstein to help the federal government take him down.

Two days later, Johnson walked back those comments.

During Tuesday’s briefing, Leavitt definitively confirmed that Trump was not an informant.

“I think the Speaker was referring to the fact that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago property for reasons the president has already discussed,” Leavitt said.

On Monday, Congress released the supposed birthday note — framed by a sketch a nude woman — that Trump wrote to Epstein. Immediately after its publication, the Trump administration denied the president wrote it and pointed to discrepancies with the signature. In Tuesday’s briefing, Leavitt stuck to that story and insisted that Trump did not write the letter.
